Longest Free Wi-Fi Hub Of The World In Patna, India
BANGALORE: If you have an internet-enabled gadget and you are anywhere close to the 20 kilometer long roadway in Bihar, you can enjoy free access to the World Wide Web. Once known as a backward state, Bihar has made turn-around aiming to be on world's infotech map, thanks to efforts of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Breaking the Chinese record of 3.5km Wi-Fi zone, Bihar has made a name for itself with its 20Km long zone. The free Wi-Fi zone is from National Institute of Technology, Patna on Ashok Rajpath to Danapur.
At a function named e-Bihar summit, Kumar not only unveiled the Wi-Fi zone but also brought forth 'city surveillance and dial 100' scheme. Under this project, around 100 CCTV cameras placed in different localities of Patna became functional. A state data centre has also been inaugurated for storing the data collected by these cameras. Thus, technology is put to good use to have better control over the law and order situation in state capital. It is indeed a U-turn from being branded as a lawless state, a few years ago, to one of the most advanced in technology space.
Principal Secretary of IT, N K Sinha said, Bihar might be a late bloomer in this sector but "we are on the cusp of IT revolution". Nasscom president R Chandrashekhar shared the positive thoughts about the new Bihar. MD Atul Sinha from Beltron, which has implemented this project for the state also spoke in the event.
Also in the pipeline are an IT city to be developed on 200-acre plot at Rajgir, infotech buildings on a plot of one lakh sq ft and 5 lakh sq ft in Patna.
