Bangalore: India is world’s fastest growing telecom industry, and it is more likely to become world’s top mobile market by 2013 with more than a billion mobile users, according to the recent survey from Telecom Regulatory Authority Of India (TRAI).

There are multiple wireless service providers in India, competing with each other, catering the enormous mobile user base. According to TRAI, private operators hold 88.9 percent of the wireless market share based on subscriber base, whereas government’s 2 PSU operators hold only 11.5 percent.

Read on to know the country’s top 10 wireless service providers,  compiled by Yahoo Finance.

#10 MTNL

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited known as MTNL, is a state-owned telecommunications service provider. The company mainly operates in two Indian metro cities, Mumbai and New Delhi, and in island nation of Mauritius in Africa.  The company had a monopoly in two metros until telecom sector was opened to other service providers in 1992.

In recent years, MTNL’s revenue and market share saw a steep fall due to immense competition from private players in Indian telecom sector. The company currently holds a market share of 0.58 percent.

#9 MTS

Mobile TeleSystems, popularly known as MTS, is a telecommunication company headquartered in New Delhi, India. MTS India is a subsidiary of Russian conglomerate Sistema, and provides services all over India with customer base of 16 million as on 2012. The services provided by the company include wireless voice, broadband internet, and messaging and data services. MTS has 1.85 percent market share in Indian telecom sector.

2: Hi we got a Reliance SIM 2 months back. One of the retail outlet of Reliance contacted me and said that they are offering calls for cheaper price than other service providers so some how we brought a SIM and started using it. It went fine for a month. After that they started activating a service called "VAS Alturist" and started charging 5 rs for every 2 days. I have called customer care for several times asking them to delete this service and also said that i am not interested in any services. When ever i call them they say the same story. that is "Sorry for inconvenience. We have deactivated the service and in future u will not have any problem". But it is nothing they keep activating and charging the money for that service. One fine day i was too upset and called the customer care and said that I will file a case in the court. Then Customer Service says "Do what ever you can. We don't stop activating and charging for this service" . I have recorded the conversation that i have with customer care. This is how the Reliance is. Finally what i say is don't fall for this cheap services. Be careful and think twice before you opt for Reliance Services.

I have similar experience with Reliance communication service. Cricket news sms got activated automatically around IPL season started and despite my many attempts it wasn't deactivated by the service provider ... i am regularly paying Rs. 5 every few says... as i do not hace a reliance office nearby, where i was told to go for my problem... it is some kind of scam.

6: airtel pricing for prepaid voice is very poor.postpaid voice/data/dth are not consumer-oriented at all. aircel data card is a poor performer. MTS which is at #9 is actually better than these two in data sector!!!!
