HP Expects New Printer Series To Help Gain Market Share

Coimbatore: Technology major Hewlett-Packard, which holds 60 per cent market share in the country's printer market, is expecting new product launches to further strengthen dominance in the segment, a top company official said.

Talking to reporters after unveiling two new HP Officejet Printers, Sumita Bhatia Vijh, Country Category Manager, Consumer Imaging and Printing Products, HP India, said the printing sector was contributing 20 percent revenue out of the total turnover of USD 120 billion, globally.

With 2.7-3 lakh printers coming to the Indian market every quarter, HP has a dominant market share of 60 percent, which was expected to increase with the launch of the new printers, she said.

To a question on impact of the rupee depreciation and proposed hike in the prices, Sumita said: "The company has already increased 2 to 4 percent on its laser printers, and we have to wait and watch with regard to other products."

When asked about the market for printers, in view of the advent of paperless governance, she said that despite this, the printer market was growing, particularly through educational institutions, students and Small and Medium Business Enterprises. These segments wanted to preserve documents and store them for future purpose, she added.

The new HP officejet Pro X series and HP Officejet Pro 3610/3620 and White series, which are latest breakthrough technologies to broader company's inkjet portfolio, are expected to transform the office printing environment for businesses in Tamil Nadu, which was a major and prominent market for HP, Vijh said.

These new inkjet innovations offered laser-comparable, robust performance along with affordability, which will empower businesses to decrease running costs and greatly increase productivity, thereby driving the adoption of inkjets in Indian Offices, she claimed.
