Google Removes India From Paid App Developers' List!

Bangalore: It is nothing less than the Comedy Of Errors, an epic Shakespeare’s play on farce comedy; as Google hops between ‘Yes’ and ‘No’, changing its decision just in a day about including and excluding India from the list of countries from where developers can register and sell paid applications on Google’s Android app market. We reported on India becoming part of the list, and now with slight disappointment, about being excluded.

Selling paid apps on Play Store could have proved big opportunity for Indian app developers, as android is the world’s leading mobile OS, which especially in India, saw a whopping 500 percent growth recently. But for now though, it appears Google has prioritized other goals for the country.

Meanwhile, Android's potential competetor, the Windows Phone 8 platform has been leveraging the potential of India's developers. A recent Microsoft App Fest in the country had made it to Guinness Book Of World Records with more than 2500 developers, which proves there is no dearth of developers in India who can try on new platforms too. So Google’s decision is ironical, to leave India out of list.

A Google spokesperson told NDTV Gadgets, "We have nothing to announce at this point in time." Google has not cleared the air about the issue yet; and in the absence of any official confirmation, one cannot be sure if the original inclusion of India in the list was an error or it’s just that their plan to include Indian developers ran into last minute regulatory hurdles.
