Google Killing Products, Junkyard Growing

Bangalore: While Yahoo! and a whole bunch of companies are keen on laying off employees, Google seems to have a different concept of restructuring altogether—it's putting to rest a number of products!

Some of the products they’ve hit the kill-switch for in the past include Google’s Patent Search homepage (it’s been integrated into the standard Google search page), Fast Flip, Maps API for Flas, Piknik, Google Message Continuity, Needlebase, Flu Vaccine Finder (which is now passed on to the team at HealthMap), and Sky Map. Sky Map, however, will still be open though as a part of a research partnership with the Carnegie Mellon University, and senior Googlers in this department will serve as advisors.

Surprisingly, those being dusted off this season even consist of a few heavily used products, so if you’re hoping your favorite hasn’t been axed, this piece is for you.

Take a look at the products that have made it to Google’s junk this season.
