Finally, Google Escapes The Curse Of Android Gingerbread

Bangalore: Google is reportedly witnessing a change on the biggest concern with Android- slow reach of OS updates to the end users. Till now a huge percent of Android devices were stuck on the older version Gingerbread. However, since the launch of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in December 2011 to this day, there has been umpteen number of devices running on Android 4.0 or better software than those that run older versions of Google platform, according to an article by Kevin.C Tofel of Gigaom.

Google claims that 45.1 percent of Androids that hit the Google Play store recently used Android 4.0 or better on its Android Developer Dashboard which can be compared to the 44.2 percent that still use Android 2.3 Gingerbread software.

There has been a quick progress in the advancement of Android 4.0 and its sub-versions. According to the source, one in four devices that visit Google Play used Android 4.0 or better. Currently, the phones and tablets use the newer versions of the software. It evidently shows that Android is more on par with iOS and other platforms than earlier. And hence, some of the prominent iPhone users are checking out Android.

Hardware makers have also caught up the attention of the software changes. Even though Android 4.0 reached markets in late 2011, it took six months for phones to ship the new version of Android and majority of them are now shipped with android 4.1 and not Android 4.2. Despite of the platform used, it will help the Android developers to target more devices for mobile apps.
