Facebook Gears Up to Develop Video-Chat App Slingshot: Report

BANGALORE: Post several attempts to acquire mobile messaging startup Snapchat, Facebook is now gearing up to introduce video message app, known internally as 'Slingshot.' This particular app would likely to allow users to send short video messages that can only be viewed once to their friends by tapping on their profile pictures. It would also be integrated with the other applications in the site, such as Facebook Messenger, reports IndiaTV.

Slingshot has reportedly been in the process for several months under the direct supervision of the company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg.

According to the published report, this video chat app is expected to be a standalone app from texting app Facebook Messenger and this is a part of Zuckerberg’s strategy of converting group’s social network into standalone mobile services.

Earlier, this social media giant was unsuccessful in taking over Snapchat previous year for $3 billion, and this second attempt indeed shows how the company is interested in having an ephemeral messaging app, mainly to boost its popularity among its young users.
