3 Amazing Innovations by Indian Engineering Students

Autonomous underwater vehicle - IIT Madras:

A group of around 30 students from IIT Madras have built an AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) Amogh, the first underwater vehicle.

The project was started in July 2012 after successfully testing a ROV and the concept design of the vehicle has been evolved to that of an AUV. The design has been customized iteratively to help complete the tasks defined in AUVSIs RoboSub and NIOTs SAVe competitions.

AUVs are normally developed to navigate currents and take instant decisions. During those days, the students' main aim was to participate in an international competition. However, they had a far more useful long-term agenda on their minds.

Their hard work were paid off well as they won the first prize of the Indian leg of the RoboSub competition, and earned a free trip to the international RoboSub competition in San Diego.
