4. Peter Thiel

Peter Thiel is an American entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and hedge fund manager. Thiel cofounded PayPal with Max Levchin and Elon Musk and served as its CEO.

He is one of the first outside investor in Facebook, with a 10.2 percent stake acquired in 2004 for $500,000 but sold most of the shares, and is enlisted in the board of directors of Facebook

He also cofounded Palantir and presides as a chairman in the company. The achievement list of Thiel is long one; he also served as a president of Clarium Capital, a global macro hedge fund with $700 million in assets under management.

5. Jim Breyer

Another American venture capitalist who entitles his name in the list of top venture investor is Jim Breyer. He is the founder and CEO of Breyer Capital, an investment and venture philanthropy firm, and a partner at Accel Partners, a venture capital firm.

Breyer has invested in over 30 companies that have gone public or completed a merger, with some of these investments, including Facebook.

He serves on the governing board of the Harvard Corporation, and 21st Century Fox, one of two companies turned out from News Corporation in 2013.
