“Today I want to talk about something that is critical to the future of our company: prioritizing security above all else.
Microsoft runs on trust, and our success depends on earning and keeping it. We have a unique opportunity and responsibility to build the most secure and trusted platform on which the world innovates.
The recent findings of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cyber Safety Review Board (CSRB) regarding the Summer 2023 Storm-0558 cyber-attack underscore the severity of the threats facing our company and our customers, as well as our responsibility to increasingly defend ourselves against this advanced threat actors.
With this responsibility in mind, we launched our Secure Future Initiative (SFI) last November, bringing together all parts of the company to advance cybersecurity across both new products and existing infrastructure. I am proud of this initiative and grateful for the work that has gone into its implementation. But we must and will do more.
When you’re faced with the trade-off between security and another priority, your answer is clear: do security. In some cases, this means prioritizing security over other things we do, such as releasing new features or providing ongoing support for legacy systems. This is key to advancing both the quality and capabilities of our platform, so we can protect our customers’ digital assets and build a safer world for everyone”.
