Is Amazon the New E-Com King in India?

Fate of Flipkart does not end there, other competitive sites like Amazon, Myntra, Jabong have availed the opportunity to turn the users to its favor. For instance, Myntra offered a 50 percent off sale soon after the flop sale of Flipkart. As the users remained engaged in online shopping, Myntra earned good profits.

A recent poll held by The Indian Republic, created the day after the ‘Big Billion Sale’ asking readers: ”Which platform do you prefer for online shopping?”, resulted in two options: Flipkart and Amazon.

With the consumer base of Amazon having so far been just behind Flipkart in the country, it seemed to be a given that Flipkart would take great leaps in terms of votes.

Setting aside the failure of the ‘Big Billion Day’ sale, it was also learnt from the surveyed group that there was fury among the Flipkart consumers for delayed deliveries, coupled with a lack of inefficient support from Flipkart’s customer care, which had caused several consumers to shift their loyalty towards other e-tail stores, in particular to Amazon, which has already been well-established in other countries, particularly in the U.S, its founding nation.

Flipkart not only angered its customers but also faced the wrath of mobile companies who were not comfortable with the fact that Flipkart was selling their products far below the real market price. To spice the existing loss, complaints reached the Indian Government. Commerce Minister, Nirmala Sitaraman assured had assured that the government would look into the rapacious pricing and unfair trade practice that Flipkart had allegedly indulged in.
