UrbanClap, Sulekha to Acquire Small Players for Growth

BANGALORE: The world of technology is soon to bring the comfort in life where services will be available under one roof or just a touch away.

UrbanClap and Sulekha are working on the same page to ease our daily lives by bringing all their services at one stop. These service startups would amass services of an electrician, photographer, plumber and many more available at one stop.

The plans are to undertake a variety of services in each category. The services of the photographers and event planners will be featured under the category of local services whereas the other category would comprise of home services. This would include acquiring small startups by these giant firms.

"Soon, a lot of small players will be gone. There will be three or maximum four players remaining. That is a healthy competition," Anubhab Goel, cofounder of Zimmber, told ET.

400 such local services startups presently exist in India and many of these startups offers the services of yoga classes, beauticians, laundry and many more.

Reportedly, Sulekha, which gets around 26,000 services requests, raised 175 cr from Singapore's GIC and Norwest in April and is mulling to acquire.

"A lot of these are vertical plays focused on home services alone, which is not sustainable given low ticket size and frequency of the services," said Varun Khaitan, cofounder of Urban-Clap. He also added that they are in the search of the teams who are operating with single vertical focus.

Companies like Quikr and Amazon are also offering similar services to these startups.
