Travel Start-Ups Are Giving A New Avatar To Tourism Industry

BANGALORE: Time and again, we all go through the constant dilemma of having to pick the right travel package. The endless search of reviewing travel websites and budget packages are quite tiresome on its own.

From a chain of cobranded hotels to budget hotels, home stays and hostels, brings forward a group of technology startups that are visibly reimaging the travel industry for both hotels sectors and tourists. Budgeted hotels and other stay homes are thriving with greater room occupancy as they are becoming transparent to customers, reports Economic Times

Zostel that started running from 2013 provides a chain of well reputed hotels for backpackers. 90pct of its services are offered to international travelers who are more comfortable to stay in dormitories.

"Social travel has not picked up in India and this change will come about slowly when people are more open to meeting co-travelers and new people," said Paavan Nanda, co-founder of Zostel. , Zostel is now planning to co-brand 50 hotels in budget range across Bengaluru, Mumbai, Jaipur and Pune."We are looking at a technology-enabled network where users can check the nearest room available on the app," said Nanda.

Although home stays have become common, Indian’s have still not warmed up to the new convenience. Choosing a budget hotel in a new place is quite a  risk to take  unless it is highly recommended on travel review websites such as TripAdvisor and some other popular websites

Zostel and OYO Rooms has fashioned their principles in the likes of Taj Group, Ginger Hotels that are known for their budget hotels across the country

These startups are offering similar quality budget stays. However they function on the basis of aggregation and co-branding rather than holding their own properties.

"The reason families do not look at the budget hotel segment is because of the unpredictability of the experience," said Ritesh Agarwal, founder of OYO Rooms.
