Mahindra to Back Employee Entrepreneurs to Launch Startups


BANGALORE: Mahindra is all set to encourage the aspiring entrepreneurs amongst its employees. The Auto to defence conglomerate is stepping the startup space to help the employees to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams and is providing the facility seed funding and incubation facilities, reports ET. 

"It is a very natural step for us to take on the task of incubating new-age startups within our sectors and possibly in entirely new areas as well," said the group chairman, Anand Mahindra, who received applications on the same and is working on it along with an investment committee.

"And happily, there is growing support in business academia for this notion that a 'corporate garage' may well be an ideal host environment for startups," he said.

The company’s first startup, SmartShift, is app-only firm that hooks up transporters and cargo owners for logistics services within a specific city. Two more startups are on their way to launch soon.

However, interested employees would have to quit their jobs at Mahindra and take up the charge of the startup. But this isn’t a matter of worry for them as their ventures would be receiving funds from Mahindra.

Given the present startup scene in India, aspiring entrepreneurs are buzzing with ideas to launch their ventures and join the bandwagon.

This year in particular has been exceedingly successful for startups in India where venture capitalists have infused upto $4 bn into the startup landscape within the period from January to September.

In addition to this, other biggies like Reliance Industries and Aditya Birla Group have also stepped into the sector where they have organized programmes to attract unique business ideas and technology.
