An Egg Vendor Who Helped 45 People To Crack Civil Services Examination

Bangalore: While most people in the world look at the unpredictable future in awe, Manoj Kumar Roy, a former road-side egg vendor and now an Indian Ordinance Factory Service (IOFS) officer, knew what he was doing while he devoted himself in teaching geography and general knowledge to the under-privileged, to train them for Central Civil Services Examination.

Roy, who hails from Bihar, is a favourite personality or even a role model to many young aspiring civil servants for his sheer grit and hardworking attitude as he travels over 110 kilometers from Nalanda to Patna for coaching purposes.

"When I cracked the civil services in my fourth attempt, I thought about many youngsters who could not afford the costly coaching, so I decided to extend my help to them," says Roy who calls himself lucky to get his first posting at Rajgir in his home state after securing 870th rank in the coveted central services exam in 2010.

Though this man had to struggle a lot to lead a normal life selling boiled eggs, vegetables and even mopping the floor, his thirst to attain more knowledge only grew with every passing day. ‘I was allotted the IOFS on the basis of my rank in the UPSC exam,’ says this proud young man who is coaching as many as 45 students in three different batches for free.
