2. Badami

Badami was once the capital of the Chalukya dynasty. The place is situated at the mouth of an attractive ravine, flanked on either side by beautiful sandstone hills. Known by the name vatapi, most buildings in Badami exemplify the Dravidian architectures. After the establishment of the Chalukya Empire in 500 AD, the Chalukya King Pulakeshi built a fort at Vatapi and made it the kingdom’s prized capital. The city is famous for its several archeological monuments that the Badami Chalukyas built. Some of the best places to visit include Mahakuta Temple, Badami Fort, Badami Cave Temple, and the Mallikarjuna Group of Temples.

3. Bidar

Situated on the Deccan plateau, Bidar is a hill-top city in the north eastern part of Karnataka. The place is filled with a number of tombs all across the town and owing to its rich heritage; the city has a prominent place in the Archaeological Map of India. The Fort Bidar is famous for the perimeter wall which is one of the longest. Bidar also has the third largest Gurudwara of India, an underwater cave Shiva temple and Karanja reservoir. Places to visit include, Bidar Fort, Bahamani tombs, Narasimha jhira Cave Temples, Rangin Mahal and Chaubara.
