Hyundai i30 to debut at 2016 Paris Motor Show
BENGALURU: The second generation Hyundai i30 was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Just over five years later, the third generation Hyundai i30 will have its world debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. It is expected to go on sale and hit the markets by the year-end. Hyundai will debut the latest generation of its i30 hatchback at the ‘Paris Motor Show 2016’ prior to its launch in the international market.
The main rival of Volkswagen Golf is set to be offered in three body styles – a five-door hatch, an estate, and a four-door coupé aimed at the European market, but the production of the three-door body style is set to be dropped because of poor sales figures. Test mules of this new hatchback were spotted in the Arctic region and Swiss Alps, and have been seen undergoing tests at the Nürburgring race track in Germany, where Hyundai has a devoted development centre. While the camouflage on the early-stage mules covers up most of the prominent features, we can see that the new i30 comes with a revised grille similar to that on other new cars from the Hyundai stable.
In US and Canada, the Hyundai i30 is named as the Hyundai Elantra GT, and the company plans to continue doing so for the third generation. The third generation Hyundai i30 will essentially be a hatchback version of the sixth generation Hyundai Elantra, which is on sale internationally. With that said, both exterior and interior should be derived from the all-new saloon.
In Europe, the 2017 Hyundai i30 will be available as a 5-door hatchback, a 4-door estate and a coupe. Like the design, the engines and transmissions may also be shared with the all-new Hyundai Elantra.
The next-gen Hyundai i30 will have a more powerful variant also- the Hyundai i30 N. It will be the first road-ready, commercial model from the South Korean carmaker's new N high-performance sub-brand. The power will come from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and the technology will be derived from the Hyundai i20 WRC.
The South Korean giant has never brought the Hyundai i30 to India. However, Hyundai did showcase the new i30 at Auto Expo 2016, and could be conducting customer clinics for the car. If the company gets a positive feedback, the i30 could be considered for the Indian market, and if launched, will create the C-Segment non-luxury hatchback market in the country.
