The fishing nets can be called as the identity of fort Kochi and is a popular hangout for local populace.  The shore operated lift nets- works using bamboo and teak poles and is held horizontally with nets of 20 meters spread or more. The fisher nets are operated by a team of up to six fishermen and are operated along with the tides.  The net is dipped into the water around five minutes before raising it back by tugging the ropes.
