Audi Launches New Sports Car, R8 V10 Plus in India


BENGALURU: German luxury car maker Audi launched the R8 V10 Plus sports car in India at Rs 2.47 crore (ex-showroom, Mumbai and New Delhi), reports Autocar India.

The new Audi R8 is the next-generations R8 and takes its performance a step ahead. Following its public reveal at the Geneva motor show 2015, this is the foremost display of the second-generation R8 V10 Plus in India. It has the same fundamental design as its predecessor, and the complete aluminum, two-seat sportscar obtains innovative headlamps with the LED daytime running lamps enfolded around the gaping hexagonal mesh front grille.

The front bumper gets air intakes with winglets to direct the airflow and a splitter underneath. The eye-catching visual beauty continues at the back with a wing spoiler, a rear bumper splitter and aero winglets to control the air flow and produce enough downforce. Powering the R8 is a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 which churns out 610bhp of power and 57.10 kgm of torque. The sportscar boasts of a 0-100kph time of 3.2 seconds with a top speed of 330kph.

Additionally, the car features cylinder-on-demand technology, which robotically closes down five of the ten cylinders, thus enhancing fuel productivity. Audi asserts the latest model is 50kg lighter and 40 percent solid than the older version that it replaces, and declares to share around 50 percent of its parts with the racing-spec R8 LMS.

The sportscar also includes other features such as an entirely customizable digital display and a multi-function steering wheel with almost 20 controls that enables the driver to manage various functions including engine start-up and exhaust sound.

Alongside the exclusive sportscar, Audi additionally showcased the all-new Audi A4 among other vehicles for the first time in India. A4 is claimed to be larger and lighter than before, and is based on a brand-new platform that includes modernized technology and powertrains.

At the expo, the firm also revealed the Audi A8 L Security that it states has been initiated with class VR 9 ballistic protection standard, considered the most rigorous requirement of civilian high security sedans.

The prologue concept displayed at the Audi pavilion presents a sample of the company’s road map that includes inventive design language and technology. The model is supposed to be the ground-breaking design forerunner to new generation of large sedans such as the A6, A7 and A8. The car is anticipated to be a preview of an all-new super-luxury A9 limousine that will distinguished the company’s upcoming sedan line-up.
