A Close Race For Audi And Merc In The Indian Luxury Car Market


BANGALORE: The Indian luxury-car market is defined by the European car makers Audi and Mercedes-Benz. In the race to win the market both the companies had a record number of sales. Audi and Merc’s fight for the first place concluded in a narrow margin in last fiscal year, reports ET.

According to companies’ reports, Audi sold 11,292 units whereas the global nemesis Mercedes-Benz sold 11,213 units. Audi took the lead spot by selling just 79 more units than Merc. The global leader, BMW lost the race to these rivals in India with a big margin.

Joe King, head of Audi India said, “We managed to outsell our competitor, despite having a limited product portfolio, on superior brand image and astounding consumer confidence.”

He added, “We aim to maintain our leadership with an impressive line-up of new products in 2015.” For the Mercedes-Benz team, the period of January-March of 2015, sold 3,566 units which is a whopping 40 percent total sale in the fiscal year. The sale of more than 35 percent in such short period of time is the best ever report for the company in Indian market.
