The Fascinating Tales of India's Mega Kitchens

The Kitchen of Dharmasthala Manjunath Temple—

Dharmasthala

It is a number game in these massive kitchens. Dharmasthala Manjunath Temple in Karnataka has the oldest and the largest run family kitchen (Heggade family) which serves an average of 50, 000 people each day and on special occasions and festivals, the number could go up to 1 Lakh.

What amuses us all is that nothing that is made in this kitchen is wasted, from the energy efficient kitchen which runs on biogas to the food waste which is re-used as vermi-compost for cattle. The amount of hard work and the immense volumes of food brought out by these noble workers calls for our respect.
