Six Outdated Laws That India Should Scrap

#4 Lepers Act, Act 3 of 1898:

What does the law say?

The Act allows the segregation and medical treatment of lepers, which is obsolete as per the modern understanding of the disease. This law legalizes forcible segregation of people affected with leprosy.

Why is it irrelevant?

This law conflicts with Article 14 of the constitution.

India being a signatory to the United Nations Resolution on the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons Affected by Leprosy and their Family Members, 2011, goes against the spirit of this Resolution.

#5 Bengal Indigo Contracts Act, Act 10 of 1836:

What does the law say?

British controlled the entire trade of Indigo during the pre-independent era in India and this Act was enacted by the Governor-General, which helps consolidate British rule over indigo farming.

Why is it irrelevant?

Needless to specify why is it irrelevant. Neither is the British ruling us, nor the indigo farming exists.
