Owing to negative passenger growth and disappointing freight growth, the budget is unlikely to present any hikes on the fares. However, there would be some minor changes in the Tatkal fares along with special train operating on dynamic fares.

The Indian railway system is expected to associate with private sector and attract finance from other countries to develop the declining railway services in the country.

Boosting North-East

Before starting with new ventures, Prabhu’s concerns would include completion f the on-going projects. And this would require at least 1.8 lakh crore to accomplish 359 hanging railway programs. The focus is on developing the connectivity in border areas by laying new tracks, especially in the states sharing the border with China.
