Modi's 'Make In India' Vision Reflected In These Reforms

Sail Away:

The Government of India (GoI) has authorized Local Marine Authorities to issue Lifetime Licenses to critical Domestic ships or vessels chartered by an Indian or a registered local company.

"The Ministry of Shipping has decided that lifetime licenses will be issued to Indian ships and any other ship charted by an Indian citizen or an Indian company instead of such licenses being renewed every year," read an official statement.

This move is to encourage domestic ships which are critical to the Indian economy and commerce. The earlier system required the company to renew its licenses every year in New Delhi. The new system makes more logical sense because the shore is down south and it is redundant to travel all the way to Delhi for a license renewal.

Boiler Inspections Better:

GoI has directed states to stop notorious factory visits by boiler inspectors and opt for third party certification on boiler safety when necessary.

The State governments appoint people as it thinks fit to be inspectors for the purposes of the Indian Boilers Act and perform duties. This is no longer concurrent to the safety regulations required by the industries.
