India Rises To The Ice Bucket Challenge

Well let’s understand how this challenge materialized and the cause behind this craze of the ice bucket challenge. Now the Ice Bucket Challenge is all about supporting the Movement to stop ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). ALS, also known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease,” is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.

As we know the motor neurons reach from brain to spinal cord and from there to the muscles. Now this progressive degeneration of the motor neuron cells will eventually lead to death. To bring awareness around the world and help eradicate this disease, people have taken steps to raise money and aids for ALS patients.

Now how did the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ make its way to the frenzy? Well first of all know that this act was not associated with the ALS awareness campaign but the ‘Hospice of Palm Beach County.’ The phenomenon became a great hit after Pete Frates, a baseball athlete who was former captain of the Boston College Baseball team and later joined the Boston Red Sox was diagnosed with ALS and presently is paralyzed took to this challenge and brought about the awareness through social media.

His initiative to spread awareness for this incurable disease is the reason why Ice Bucket Challenge became a huge hype over the internet.

The rules behind the challenge is that you take a video proof of you, dousing yourself with Ice Water and then challenge a friend to do the same or in failing to do so donate $100 bucks to the charity and later upload it on a social networking site. You can accept the challenge and donate as well, it’s a choice you make at the end of the day, but whatever you do it is about bringing awareness about this disease and showing support.
