Asian Games 2014: India's High Medal Hope Athletes

Vikas Gowda:

Discus Thrower Vikas Gowda who gave India its first athletics gold medal of the 20th Commonwealth Games by winning the men's discus throw competition in Glasgow will face competition from two Iranians and one Chinese in the South Korea games.

The 31- year- old U.S.- based Indian bagged the gold with an effort of 63.64m, way below his personal best of 66.28m, under incessant rain at Hampden Park. Gowda ended India's 56- year gold medal drought in men's athletics at the Commonwealth Games. He converted the silver he had won four years ago in New Delhi into the yellow metal with a best throw.
The last and only male Indian athlete to claim a gold medal in athletics was Milkha Singh who won the men's 440 yards at the Cardiff 1958 Games.

Yogeshwar Dutt:

Starting his wrestling career at an early of eight, Yogeshwar Dutt, the Olympics bronze medalist did India proud again in the men’s 65kg freestyle wrestling in the recently held Commonwealth Games. He beat Canada's Jevon Balfour 10-0 in the men's 65kg freestyle finals.

Dutt who will lead India's challenge at the upcoming Asian Games in the absence of Sushil Kumar, is expecting the grapplers to win three to four freestyles medals for the country in the mega-event known to have much tougher competition than the Commonwealth Games.

Yogeshwar, who won the CWG gold is now eyeing his maiden Asian Games title. He missed the 2010 edition in Guangzhou owing to an injury but had won bronze in the 60kg category at Doha 2006.
