Ace Women Athletes Who Brought Pride to the Nation 2015

Sania MirzaSania Mirza:

She bravely threw away the dirt that was spilt at her lately. Sania proved her worth when she won the Women’s Doubles title against Swiss’s ace player, Martin Hingis. This is a victory that slapped all those who criticized her for her inefficiencies, as she catapulted to her career’s best with this sin. She is now World’s No. 3 Champion in the category. Though Tennis is much followed sport world over, it receives lesser attention in India. Can’t blame anyone can we? After all it is a cricket-frenzy country.

Heena SindhuHeena Sindhu:

A new name for many, yes, but we are glad to have her in the nation. Shooter Heena Sindhu wrote her initials as the first Indian exponent to win a gold medal at ISSF World Cup final in Munich, Germany. She bagged gold in the National Games held last year and gold from Commonwealth in 2010. In the pre-Olympic year Heena stands as World’s No.1.

Geeta Phogat:

India’s first woman wrestler to qualify for the Olympics in history and to have won the first ever gold medal in women’s wrestling in 55 kg freestyle category. Geeta is the Indian wrestler who broke the gender taboos in the nation, and pioneered the women wrestling champions in India.

Other women like Mary Kom, Dipika Pillai are on a mission to glorify the nation. They deserve much more than the medals and awards. They deserve to be encouraged by their fellow citizens.
