World Cup 2015: Bails That Cost More Than An iPhone

BANGALORE: Remember the ICC T20 championship semi-finals, where Dhoni was made an offer that if his team won the championship he would be gifted a cricket bail as a souvenir, but could not avail to it.

So, it’s a bail that is what is gifted to a captain? Before you opt to answer this, have a look at its price. Each bail costs around the price equal to an iPhone and the whole set costs around $ 40,000. Yes this is the amount that makes the field glow, whatever may be the cost as cricket champions are adorned with money it is just another addition to the gentleman’s pocket.

So let’s hear out its story, how it made to the ground and finally made its way into major tournaments globally; reports Rediff.

# Bronte Eckermann was the one who made Dhoni the offer, because he is the man behind the innovation, an Australian mechanical engineer. The stump set was fabricated by Zing International, a South Australian manufacturer and the stumps were nicknamed after them and are known as the Zing wicket system.

# While inventing is a thing, introducing it in the game is of another sort of achievement. It was first tested in a club game in Adelaide, which it passed with flying colors. After ACB (Australian Cricket Board) tried it in night matches instead of wooden bails. It was later tried it in 2012 edition of Big Bash League in Australia.
