Top Benefits Enjoyed by India's Parliamentarian



BANGALORE: India’s MPs have given themselves a threefold hike in salary, now earning 68 times the country’s average salary. On top of these, they have enjoyed various perks. Let us have a look at the benefits enjoyed by the parliamentarian, as compiled by Rediff.

Monthly Salary and Allowances: With the commencement of Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament (Amendment) Act, 2001, the amount of salary of elected members has been increased. Presently, each parliamentarian gets a salary of 50, 000 per month during the whole term of office.

Similarly, the amount of daily allowance has been increased to 2,000 per day for each day of residence on duty at a place where a session of a House of Parliament or a sitting of a Committee is held. But, the member are entitled to the aforesaid allowance unless he signs the register, maintained for this purpose by the Secretariat of the House of the People or Council of States on all the days (except intervening holidays for which no such signing is required) of the session of the House for which the allowance is claimed.
There are also other allowances like Constituency Allowance and Office Expense Allowance of 45,000 each.
