Most Tragic Rail Accidents in India


Bangalore: The recent train accident that occurred in East Indian state Bihar was a disturbing one which took away the lives of many. India has seen a huge number of train accidents within its territory that have been shocking to its people. Coping up with a situation like this has been yet another disastrous outburst of controversies in Indian Politics. Indian railway has experienced many catastrophic moments in its history that have been extremely ruinous.

Here’s a chronological list of train accidents since the year 2000 that were grievous for India.

December 3, 2000

Forty-six people died in a train accident that took place in Punjab in December 2000. The tragedy occurred when the Howrah-Amritsar train crashed into a derailed goods train between Sarai Banjara and Sadhugarh. Over 150 casualties were found during this incident that experienced the moment of trauma. The entire accident was a result of poor track maintenance and unorganized warning systems in case of an emergency.
