Mars- New Hotspot for Indians to Settle Down?

Bangalore: A voyage to another planet that has no water or food and undoubtedly no way of returning home might not sound that interesting, but to almost 1,800 Indians who have already applied for settling down in Mars, it is indeed a once in a lifetime time opportunity. Aashima Dogra, spokesperson of a nonprofit organisation in the Netherlands claimed that out of the Indians enrolled for the permanent settlement in mars; many of them are from Bangalore, reports IndiaTv.

So far, many people have offered to join an ambitious private mission by Mars One to send a group of four men and women to Mars in 2023 for a permanent space settlement. This one-way human mission to Mars will be carried out despite the ground realities about surface temperature, atmosphere, soil and ecology on the Red Planet. By now, out of around 100,000 applied, almost 30,000 are from the United States where the applicants pay a sum of $7 as fee to register their names on Mars One website.

"This programme is proving to be extremely popular among Indians, I think because of the excellent space programme we have," said Dogra, reported IndiaTv. She was referring to ISRO’s (Indian Space Research Organisation) Mars mission that was planned for October-November 2013.
