IIMs Welcome More Talented Young Women In 2013

Bangalore: This year an increase in women students at IIM campuses will be seen and companies looking at gender diversity during the placement season 2015 will find equal talent. It has been revealed that IIMs are going to admit more female students in the present 2013-15 batch, reported Shreya Biswas for ET Bureau.

The percentage of women shortlisted at the top three IIMs has increased from 15.96 percent to 23.3 percent. IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Kolkata have jointly shortlisted 989 women candidates for a total of 1,272 seats this year. The shortlist has been done for personal interviews. It was noted that last year the institutes had selected 646 women for interviews to fill 1,222 seats.

Vinita Bali, Managing Director, Britannia Industries said "Corporate India can only feed on the talent that is available, and if IIMs create that (female) talent pool, then we have more to choose from," reported ET Bureau.

It has also been witnessed that the number of women appearing for CAT has been increasing gradually. The number was 53,732 in 2010 and increased to 56,050 in 2011, and then to 60,876 in 2012. But in terms of gender diversity, improvement in the Indian MBA talent is expected to occur only this year.
