From Auto To Plane: Journey Of Shrikant Pantawane

BANGALORE: Irony has its way with things. From driving a three wheeler auto rickshaw to serving as an Indigo’s pilot roster, the exceptional story of Shrikant Pantawane's was tweeted by IndiGo which will also feature in the in-house magazine.

Pantawane's father, who hails from Nagpur, worked as a security guard for a living. This earnest living had rooted the path of Pantawane to follow his father’s steps and started working at a young age.  This meant that Shrikant had to manage school as well as hold a job as a delivery boy to drive around in an auto, reports NDTV.

On one of his shifts, Pantawane was assigned a task for an airport delivery, struck a conversation with a tea-stall vendor who informed him about the pilot scholarship program that is facilitated by the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Pantawane qualified for the scholarship soon landed in a flying school in Madhya Pradesh and has aced every assignment since then. Nonetheless, there was still a long way ahead before Pantawane could live his dream. He received a commercial pilot license (CPL) but was still expected to work as a corporate executive due to the slow-moving market that lacked opportunities.

The long wait eventually came to pass when he was appointed by budget carrier IndiGo. Pantawane has struck fortune with his earned title as first officer, commonly known as second pilot or co-pilot with the airline.
