Countries that are Most Vulnerable To Climate Change

BANGALORE: Of late, there has been a fundamental shift in weather patterns all over the world. From rising temperatures to shrinking glaciers, the evidence of a changing global climate is all around us.

Let us check out those countries that are likely to be worst affected by climate changes as compiled by CNBC.

Vietnam:

In Vietnam, natural disasters like famines and floods have already killed thousands of people. Climate change is one of the key factors having great impact on production activities and socio-economic development in Vietnam.

It is projected that in the near future, production of ricein the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta is likely to lose at least 7.6 million tons per year, an equivalent of about 40 percent of the total rice output of the entire country.

In addition, the sea level rise will push salt-water infiltration deeper into the inner fields and about 2.4 million hectares of rice fields will be affected. At present, salt water infiltration is already recorded to be four parts per thousand in areas of the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta that are located at about 30-40 km from the sea.

It can also be noted that over the last one decade, natural disaster like floods, landslides and droughts has resulted in a 1.5 percent cut to the nation's annual gross domestic product (GDP), stated in the government website.
