Chhattisgarh First Indian State to Execute Placement Agency Act

BANGALORE: Today, many Indian states are turning out to be a hotspot of human trafficking. The enormous bulk of trafficked women and girls are poor, some belong to landless families, and most come from lower caste communities.

Amidst all these disheartening stories, there is great news to share. Chhattisgarh now becomes the first state to implement Private Placement Agencies (Regulation) Act against placement agents to restrict trafficking of women and children to metro cities and also to other parts of the country, reports Rashmi Drolia, The Times of India.

Ravikant, Supreme Court advocate who has been actively working against human trafficking issues, welcomed this move and said, "This law is first in the country to be implemented in Chhattisgarh and is a comprehensive piece of legislation. It clarifies stringent monitoring of agencies and would be an important tool to protect children rights, especially tribal girls, and would help plunge the atrocities against girls and women in Chhattisgarh."

It can be noted that Chhattisgarh is one state that has been a hot spot for trafficking of girls and women to metro cities to work as domestic works where they usually get further exploited, abused, pushed in flesh trade or at times untraceable.
