Bihar, Second Highest in Violent Crimes


Bangalore: Uttar Pradesh may top the charts for being the most criminal state but Bihar isn’t too far behind. According to the latest data of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) Bihar reported the second highest incidence of violent crimes in the country after UP. Bihar accounted for 10.1 percent (26,003) of total violent crimes (2, 56,329) in the country. Maharashtra had the third highest incidence of violent crimes with 9.3 percent (23,900).

UP accounted for 33.4 percent of total crime reported in country during 2011 followed by Tamil Nadu (11.5 percent), Andhra Pradesh (7.2 percent) and Karnataka (6.7 percent).

Percentage distribution of crime against children with respect to all India figures for the year 2011 was Uttar Pradesh (16.6 percent), Madhya Pradesh (13.2 percent), Delhi (12.8 percent), Maharashtra (10.2 percent), Bihar & Andhra Pradesh (6.7 percent each), Chhattisgarh (5.4 percent), Rajasthan (4.5 percent), West Bengal (4.4 percent) and Gujarat (3.4 percent).

Bihar has a record of corrupt politicians. It was noted as per Bihar Election Watch (BEW) and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), which analyzed affidavits of 2235 candidates (out of 3523) who contested the Bihar 2010 elections, political parties for some strange reason continue to distribute party tickets to an overwhelming number of tainted candidates.
