She was probably one of the most understated players in the world at the time of Fall of Berlin Wall. That was when Merkel stepped into politics. She was crowned as the first ever woman Chancellor of Germany. 

In spite of being in power for over a decade, there is no sign of her slowing down in power politics. She is the only longest serving head of the state in the entire European Union.
