8 Worst Aviation Accidents In World History




Dana Air MD-83, 2012:

A McDonnell Douglas MD-83 aircraft, Dana Air Boeing was operating from Abuja to Lagos.  The flight 9J-992 crashed in one of the busy commercial areas of Lagos in Nigeria on the unfateful day of 3rd June, 2012.

Prior to the accident, the crew reported of a trouble in engine and declared an emergency of 11 nautical miles (20 km) from the airport. The crash was considered to be caused by the failure of its dual engine followed by forced landing.

It took away the lives of all the 153 people on board, 6 of them were crew members.  This plane crash is by far the 29th loss of the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 aircraft type and also the third worst plane crash in Nigeria.

Air India Express Boeing 737, 2010:

Air India Express Boeing 737 crash is one of the deadliest aviation disasters ever witnessed in India in the 21st century.

The flight was operating from Dubai to Mangalore on 22nd May 2010 and crashed as it overran the hilltop runway while landing. The post crash fire that spread in the flight as well as in the nearby valley worsened the condition.

This unfateful accident had killed 160 passengers and six crew members on board. Out of which only eight passengers escaped from this disaster.

Most of the passengers on board were Indians who came back to visit their families from jobs in the Gulf. Around 20 children were present in that flight.
