1946 Calcutta Riot is also known as the ‘Direct Action Day’, which gulped 5000 lives in west Bengal province. In 1946 The British government was all set to with draw its colonial powers from India. Fearing the Hindu dominance in the independent India, Muslim league rose for partition and proposed separate Islamic state, ‘Pakistan.’ However The Indian National Congress and Hindu Mahasabha defied the partition proposal. As a result Muslim League called out Direct Action Day Protest in Calcutta. The motto of the protest was to show the strength of Muslim community in the country for sovereign Islamic state, which eventually left its mark as one of the most brutal riots in India.

Noakhali Riots:

Noakhali Riots are outcome of the Calcutta Riots in East Bengal province, which is now Bangladesh. The enraged Muslim community, which seeked vengeance started killing Hindu men, abducting and raped Hindu women and some were forcibly converted into Islam. Estimated deaths reached 5000 by the end of partition and survivors were then moved to Assam and West Bengal.
