Kalaripayattu:

Kalaripayattu is considered as mother of all martial arts in India, it is one of the oldest existing martial arts in world. Kalaripayattu originated in Kerala, 3000 years ago and Parashurama, a legend in Indian mythology is believed to be its founder. Today, this martial art is being practiced in central and northern parts of Kerala; neighboring regions of ‘Kerala’ and ‘Tamil Nadu’ and Tulunadu in Karnataka have also been practicing this art. 

Silambam:

           

Silambam is weapon based martial art practiced in Tamil Nadu, as it was originated here; this art is also practiced in Sri Lanka and Malaysia by the Tamil communities there. The term ‘Silambam’ derives from the Tamil word silam meaning ‘hill’ and the Kannada word ‘bambu’ from which the English ‘bamboo’, which means, the art is performed using bamboo sticks which are brought from a particular hill.  However the South Indian lore claim that it was introduced several thousand years ago by sage Agastya, but Sangam Literature records 2nd century B.C. to be the origin of Silambam.
