7 Most Controversial Aircraft Crashes


Cubana de Aviacion Flight 455:

Shortly after Cubana de Aviacion Flight 455 took off from Seawell Airport in Barbados, on October 6, 1976 for Jamaica; it was brought down by two bombs. These bombs were created using plastic explosives hidden in toothpaste tubes.

At the altitude of 18,000 feet, two bombs exploded on the board just after 11 minutes it took off. The bombs were located in the aircraft's rear lavatory, and the midsection of the passenger cabin.

One destroyed the aircraft control and another blasted a hole in the aircraft with fire. Pilot tried to return to the Seswell airport but he was unsuccessful. 73 passangers along with 5 crew members died in the crash.

Later, The culprits namedFreddy Lugo and Hernan Lozano were found and arrested soon after the bombing and were each sentenced to 20-year prison terms.. They had boarded the plane in Trinidad and departed during its stopover at Seawell. The culprits

As per the statement given by Lozano, the bombers were paid by Luis Posada Carriles, a terrorist and former Central Intelligence Agency agent. Whether or not the CIA was in any way involved in the bombing, they appear to have known about it.
