BANGALORE: Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar announced the implementation of the long awaited OROP scheme. 'One Rank One Pension' scheme would offer uniform pension payouts to army veterans considering their  ranks held by them at the time of retirement and the length of service.

As the last minute negotiations failed the scheme wasn’t announced on Independence Day. However, on September 6, the bill was announced after most of the modalities have been discussed and resolved.
