6 Atypical Shrines in India With Bizarre Religious Beliefs

Om Banna:

Om Banna is a unique temple in Rajastan, probably one may not find this kind of temple anywhere around the world.  To be precise, Om Banna is a motorcycle temple, where the spirit of Om Singh Rathore and his motorcycle is  worshiped. It is said that in 1988, Om Singh Rathore who was riding his bike, struck the tree.

Eventually Rathore was found dead by the local police near the accident spot. Later the Police confiscated the bike, but the bike is said to be returning to the accident spot everyday before the sunrise. Thus the local people started worshiping the bike and believe Rathore soul is to be the savior of the bothered riders in particular avenue.

Karni Mata Temple:

Karni Mata Temple is also widely known as the ‘Rats Temple’ located in Rajastan. The temple is dedicated to the Karni Mata, who was a sage, lived an ascetic life and eventually disappeared mysteriously. The matchless story of the temple is that around  20, 000 rats are housed in the this temple with great honor.

Rats are also worshipped here, since the local folklore says that one of the sons of Karni Mata Temple drowned into the Kapila Sarovar and the Lord Yama (God of Death) influenced by the Karni Mata, saved him by turning him and all his brothers into rats.
