Chandi Prasad DuttChandi Prasad has been recently awarded the Gandhi Peace Prize for his dedicated, tireless, and invaluable work for the conservation of the environment. Chandi is a lifelong Gandhian, who takes forth Gandhi’s ideals as a part of Indian heritage. He started the Chipko Movement (Hug the Trees) in 1973 following the satyagraha principles of Gandhi. He is known as India’s modern environmentalist. He was the first Indian who rose up to the threat of ecological imbalance and instituted 'Dasholi Gram Swarajya Sangh (DGSS)' in 1964 for employment of villagers in forest based Industries. His unconditional love for the nature drove him all along.
