Ladakh is known for its charming and serene beauty globally but something not many of us know of this paradise on earth is the acute scarcity of water during winter season. Chewang Norphel, a civil engineer, pioneered the first artificial glacier to meet the need of water in Phuktse Phu Village. His initiative, that brought him a Padma Shri, enhanced the agricultural produce thereby incrementing the local income level. The endeavor of this 79 year old engineer has bore fruits and has lessened the distance between the villagers and water.
