(4) The Most Twisted Road in the World

Lombard Street is an East-West Street in San Francisco, California named after Lombard Street in Philadelphia by San Francisco surveyor Jasper O'Farrell.

It is well known for having a steep-block section that consists of eight tight hairpins turns in just 400 meters as the road fall down a 27-degree gradient. The speed limit is just 5mph and this warns the vehicle drivers to drive with caution.

All this twists and turns on the road make it the crookedest street in the world. This crooked street section of Lombard Street is also featured in the Disney hit movie “The Love Bug”.

(5) The Coldest Road in the World

Kolyma Highway (M56) is the perfect definition of ‘Anti-Freeze’ road as it passes through some of the coldest places on Earth. The road is 1,262 miles long and connects Magadan with the town of Nizhny Bestyakh, located on the eastern bank of Lena River opposite Yakutsk.

The town of Oymyakon on this road has an average January temperature of -46 degree Celsius and temperatures as low as -67.7 degree Celsius, which makes it the coldest road on Earth.

A certain section of this road is often referred to as the 'Road of Bones' as the bones of prisoners from the Sewostlag Labour Camp who died constructing the road are buried beneath it. The road is regarded as a memorial to these souls.
