'Sexting' on the Rise Among Indian Teens


Bangalore: More than 50 percent of Indians have admitted to sending “sexually provocative” pictures, according to the recent survey by Times Magazine in its “Wireless Issue,” as reported by Times of India.

The survey polled nearly 5,000 people in eight countries like U.S., the UK China, India, South Korea, South Africa, Indonesia and Brazil. 45 percent of South Africans and 54 percent of Indians have admitted of sending “sexts,” while Brazil topped the pack with 64 percent.

Sexting “ the practice of electronically sending sexually explicit images or messages from one person to the another” have become a very common thing among the teenagers. Teenagers are found to be ‘sexting’ without being aware of the legal consequences of engaging in such activities. According to the survey, 30 percent of U.S. teenagers are engaged in the practice of sending their nude pictures through email or text.

Indian doctors have also warned that the Indian teenagers, some of whom who blindly ape the west, may also start to indulging in sexting.
