Microsoft's Latest Desi Connection; StorSimple

Bangalore: With the acquisition of a startup cloud vendor by the software giant Microsoft, the focus is back on StorSimple; a venture started by two Indians, Ursheet Parikh and Guru Pangal.

Talking about the acquisition Ursheet Parikh, co-founder, StorSimple said “Most StorSimple customers are mainstream IT organizations that have chosen Windows Azure as their primary cloud. We are excited to continue to work with Microsoft and bring the combined benefits of StorSimple and Windows Azure to customers around the world.”

In July 2011, SiliconIndia published an exclusive interview with Ursheet Parikh who had then shed light on the emerging trends in the storage market and his venture StorSimple. Talking about the sudden shift in the market and the wider acceptance of cloud he said, “Today, it is common to require six different devices or technology to manage data through its full lifecycle - like primary disk storage, archival storage, disaster recovery, backup software and more. What StorSimple provides is a single integrated appliance that replaces these six devices on which the same data would have to get managed at different stages of its lifecycle and integrates seamlessly with the cloud and automates all of the data management.” Interestingly, he had then mentioned how Microsoft is pretty keen on supporting StorSimple, “Microsoft is supportive of StorSimple and sees incredible value because we have helped them achieve their cloud sales quota very quickly. We help to bring the big $50 billion incremental revenue opportunity to Microsoft and also see that they get these deals quickly as we offer a best-of-breed solution which customers can deploy without making any changes to their application.”

An Indian by origin, Parikh did his engineering in Computer Science from IIT Bombay after which he did his MBA from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Parikh started his IT career at Deloitte Consulting serving as an analyst, technical architect and project leader. He went on to hold some of the key positions in the industry like Director of Product Management for Cisco’s WAN optimization and application acceleration business unit. He even held key management positions in Kuokoa Networks and Jalva Medica Inc.
