'Cos Still Hesitate To Take ERP, Finance Apps On Public Cloud'

NEW DELHI: Cloud adoption in the country may be on the rise, but companies are still hesitant of running ERP, financial planning and compliance applications on public cloud as they are concerned about the security of their data, a survey by tech firm EMC said.

The survey found customer experience (51 percent) and automating processes (41 percent) were the key drivers for companies in India for adoption of new technologies (social, mobility, analytics and cloud or SMAC).

About 91 percent of the CIOs interviewed said the SMAC stack will provide a competitive advantage for their organisation. However, there were few takers of public cloud due to security concerns.

"While 42 percent said they would not hesitate putting enterprise resource planning on public cloud, 31 percent said the same for financial planning app on public cloud," EMC President (India and SAARC) Rajesh Janey told reporters.

He added that 76 percent of the CIOs felt that hybrid cloud allows for a higher level of agility and security.

Cloud computing facilitates sharing of technological resources, software and digital information. It operates on a pay-per-use model, helping companies cut costs as they do not have to invest heavily on infrastructure.

Cloud computing comes in three forms -- public, private and hybrid (mix of public and private)
