The Most Secretive Firms In The World

Trader Joe’s

Trader Joe’s is a company that is thought of as quintessentially American: helpful and friendly. But the company is much less forthcoming with information regarding its working and ownership. Trader Joe’s doesn’t even have a sign outside its office building in Monrovia, and its owners, the German Albrecht family, are very private.

The company has continuously declined to be profiled in top business magazines like Fortune. Irrelevant to this the company is still growing at a slow but remarkable, and retains its reputation as a friendly, neighborhood small town shop in America.

Bechtel

Bechtel is the biggest engineering corporation and the third-largest privately owned firms in the U.S., but most people have never heard of it. Bechtel has managed to slip under the radar as it is a family owned corporation, and goes by various names for deals not directly related to business; the company purchases real estate under the name Project X.

One of the reason that it maintains its secrets is because employees at Bechtel leave to occupy high positions in the government and military, and these contacts help to ensure Bechtel’s reputation.
